Smaller grocery stores experienced an uptick in-store visits during the first quarter of this year. The report from Placer.ai also found that shoppers are making fewer trips to superstores like Walmart and Costco Wholesale. This all comes on the heels of inflation that has tempered the market and decreased consumer spending.
Despite that, independent F&B retailers are seeing growth thanks to footprint expansions and a shift in consumer preferences. Even though it may seem like the economy is struggling, there is still room for growth in the grocery market, especially for independent retailers and small chains.
